Pool Renovation

After 22 years of fun in the sun it was time to renovate the pool.  We let the pool chemistry go and the plan was to then flood the yard with old pool water... which we did.  The yard is very happy at this point... but the pool looked nasty for a couple of days as the chemicals lost their effectivness.

There are a lot of thoughts on how long pool plaster lasts... but it really depends on how good you are at water chemistry.  I had someone look at the plaster when it was 15 years old and they said it looked great.  Time flew by and at 22 years I had waited too long... it would need an additional day of work... the contingency in the contract was in effect.  I totally agreed with the pool guy, he had warned me that it probably would need additional work.  So most of the old plaster would be jack-hammered off... down to the concrete underneath.

There were 3-4 guys jackhammering away for 3 days...

The tile was in great shape so we decided to keep it as it was.

They put 4000 pounds of new plaster in the pool.  A lot of weight.  All of the debris was hauled out in buckets and bags.  All of the plaster was hauled in by wheel barrow from my driveway...  thats quite a hill they had to go up... and they were laughing and smiling pretty much the whole time.

So the job was on time and on budget and cost 40% less than a major pool company.  Most of the guys on the crew have worked for major pool companies and had been doing this for 20-30 years.  The damage to the yard amounted to a trail in the grass from the gate to the pool... about 20 feet.

The company was:

The Texas Pool Man
Albert Flores

Albert is a talker, but a very nice guy.  He is not the weather guy.

Time will be the true test, but right now it looks like a brand new pool.
