I was flying solo and practicing acrobatics in a Tweet and it was near the end of my flight when I checked my fuel. I was getting close to bingo fuel (time to go back) and I noticed my fuel was out of balance. There is a fuel tank in each wing and they had to be within 300 pounds of each other or it made one wing enough heavier than the other wing that controling the airplane started becoming a factor.
I was approaching 300 pound heavier in one wing and I tried every thing I could to rebalance it. Nothing worked... both engines were feeding out of the same tank and something was broken in the fuel system that I couldn't fix. Now I had half my fuel that wasn't usuable and I was rapidly running out of fuel on top of getting way out of balance. I declared an emergency and asked for priorty handling. Declaring an emergency meant everyone was listening to you... Like you are no longer invisible. Maintenance called me and we talked, they said what was happening couldn't happen... great... I was thinking I am going to win that stupid trophy again. It turned out I was right. Maintenance was wrong. By the time I landed my fuel was way out of balance and the only tank I could get fuel from was almost empty. I didn't win the hated trophy again... and I didn't run out of fuel and have to eject... got an "atta boy".
