Something I wrote for the HOA newsletter... they wanted something on the Architectural Control Committee...
Roses and Dandelions
You searched a long time to find just the right spot. You wanted some shade from the big Oak trees. Maybe you wanted morning sunshine, but had to settle for afternoon heat. The Southeast breeze was an added bonus you hadn’t thought of, and one you now enjoy.
So you selected the spot and you put down roots. With time the roots became well established and you were proud of your home. Our community is like a rose garden with beautiful roses. But roses require care… water, food and trimming. If you don’t trim a rose bush right it will become leggy and it will not bloom. Our rose bushes are a lot older and some are not blooming now… the hot sun is certainly no help.
Dandelions need no care. They bloom easily… and then they go to seed. You’ve seen them, those white balls of fuzz waiting for a breeze. With a little breeze they float down the street and soon grow in another spot. If we are not careful dandelions will spread and take over our rose garden… soon there will be fewer and fewer roses.
Look around; does your house or yard need care? Do you see your home as a rose and others see it as a dandelion? Look around the neighborhood and compare your home and yard to the others, is it strangely different? It shouldn’t be. Do you know you have a Dandelion and just don’t care? I hope not. But, we do have dandelions.
Our homes were a big investment for each of us, please maintain your home and yard. Please… we do not want to be a field of Dandelions…

I love it :)
I think I've become a dandelion. I spent a couple hours picking them out of one TINY spot in the back yard. I've put an ad on Craigslist for some local fru-fru chefs to come harvest the greens if they would like to serve them next to their pate. No one has called on that ad.
the previous owner of our house was an undercover dandelion....maybe when it cools down a bit billy and i will venture to become a rose. :)
hey pop pop....what doin'? are you finished with your latest project? wanna post a new post? the roses are wilted and the dandelions blew away. time for a new post. :}
