Hank Charles has joined the family with great ease. Having been in the delivery room twice, I can say this one sounded by far the easiest of the two. Melissa only had to push one and a half times and Hank was in this world. I know because I was sitting there with my back turned and listening.
8 lbs 3 oz and 21 inches long... although I heard the nurse say 24 inches long... records say 21 inches long. So... I think I will name him "The Incredible Hank".
He had only been with us for a few minutes here.
Hank was born with a little bit of a Cleft Lip... but we think he is still perfect. It doesn't appear to affect any other area except his lip. Surgery for this is usually around the 3 to 4 months time frame. We will know more when he visits with the medical team in December.
He is feeding well and.... yea... sleeping well...
We brought Piper a little cozy car to help with the sibling shock of a new brother... and with a little tape and a razor blade and that big old box... I made a house. That was the life saver of my babysitting time while everyone was at the hospital. It helps that they have Apple TV and we watched every episode of Dora and her cousin... wow... I cant believe it... I forgot Dora's cousins name ! How can that be, I heard it about a million times.
Martha and I brought Piper home to give the new parents a break. Kitchen worked pretty much stopped for a while. But, did we ever have fun. We didn't even think about spoiling her...
Katie even came over to visit one day and I got to babysit the two of them at once...
The best part about that was Katie wanted to sit in my lap the whole time and Piper thought she was getting cheated and climbed in my lap too. Pretty much heaven for me. I tried to take a photo of both of them in my lap but that wasn't easy. Just try to hold you iphone out at arms length and take a photo of all thee ... and manage to keep you phone from getting lifted by two year old gremlins.
It was fun watching the two of them communicate. I think my favorite conversation was about a big wheel bike we keep outside. It has buttons that you push to make noise and it was not working. I tried to video the conversation but was too late. They were actually trouble shooting the problem and coming up with ideas on how to fix it. In the end I think they decided PopPop could fix it... it sure was fun listening to the deductive reasoning going on. I was impressed.
