Being Old Requires a New Diet

Those commercials for old people on TV are starting to hit close to home.  I cringe when I hear a news story about an elderly person and that person is actually younger than me.  The TV reporter instantly loses my respect... what are they thinking... 65 isn't old...  Well, according to the Doc, I am not old (I am about the same age as he is)... but I do need fiber.

Back when I was flying, Starbucks in San Diego had a muffin called the Sunshine Muffin.  A bran muffin.  It was my favorite quick breakfast on the road.  When they discontinued it I set out on a mission to duplicate it.  I used about 5 different recipes and came up with my own concoction after about 5 tries.  The key for me was applesauce, raisins, cinnamon and walnuts... without those ingredients bran is definitely not my favorite at all.

I used to bake a dozen the night before I left on a three day trip.  It didn't take long to realize that it wasn't a good thing to eat 3-4 of these in the same day... especially when flying along at 500mph in an aluminum tube, at 35,000 feet... while being locked in a cockpit for hours at a time.

Ahh... a little secret... if you need to use the lavatory... all you have to do is turn on the seat belt sign and make a PA that it might be a little rough weather ahead... and you don't have to wait in line...sometimes it's good to be king.

I think it is safe to bring the recipe back out now that I am ... gasp... Elderly (according to the news)... and at home... Yea!

O joy! That part of our lives have begun. I'm ahead of you. Got to make the best of it and your muffins sound great. Whatever works.

I love these muffins! Last time I made them though was when you and Scott made an adventure (in horrific weather) ou tto fish for salmon.
