This is a story about Wally. Wally the Wreally Wonderful Warty Squirrel. You should call him “W3”.
Wally was a wonderful squirrel, but he was born with warts. Warts on his legs. Warts on his back. Warts on his head. And a big fat wart on his nose. His brothers and sisters all made fun of him. He cried a lot when he was growing up. And the other squirrels made fun of him for crying.
It was hard growing up. At times very sad. One day Wally woke up and said to himself… “I am Wally, the Wreally Wonderful Squirrel”. I am going to exercise so I can run faster and jump higher than any one else. I am going to study hard and be smarter than any one else.” They won’t be able to laugh at me any more.
And so Wally did. Soon he ran so fast no one could catch him. He jumped so high that others were amazed. He studied so hard he made only A’s. No one knew as much as Wally.
Wally the Wreally Wonderful Warty Squirrel… had become a very successful squirrel.
What Wally the Wreally Wonderful Warty Squirrel did not realize was… that with hard work he had become the one that everyone looked up to. When anyone had a question, they would ask Wally… modestly he always had the right answer. When someone was needed to jump up on the high roof to help someone down… they called Wally… and he jumped up and helped them down. When they needed someone to run and warn everyone the big mean hawk was flying over, they would call Wally… everyone counted on Wally.
Funny thing. Nobody noticed Wally’s warts anymore… they just saw Wally… Wally the Wreally Wonderful Squirrel... W3.
Don’t you just “LUV” Wally!
Do you have warts? Almost everyone has a wart or two... but maybe it has another name... What is your wart?
Don't tell me...
And... Hug a Wally this week... Almost everyone is a Wally.

Carolyn--I think this post is your fault. You put the idea in his head!!
Thanks for the reminder Happy Joe. Last night I did see a hawk fly over our back yard....he must have been looking for me!
love it dad! you are a great writer. can't wait to read the next one! :) you will have to read that story to little girl suess.
Carolyn. That hawk was just checking to see if you had a Wally in your neighborhood. He will go elsewhere if Wally lives there. To the easy pickin's... Everyone needs a Wally.
Melissa. I have one... "Bitty Flys to the Moon". It is about failure not being all bad...
I agree with Melissa. That is a great story to tell your grandkids. They will love it as I did.
