A Bunch of Grapes

It was an interesting year on the BOD of the Homeowners Association... So interesting that I resigned... and wrote this...

A BUNCH OF GRAPES

Have you every bought a big bunch of grapes? We buy the big boxes of grapes at Costco. We usually pop the box open and feel the grapes... And, risking an exotic malady, maybe even taste one... If they pass the test they come home.

The other day a big bunch got put in the colander to be washed... When they were picked up to be put in the bowl, a couple fell onto the floor. As usual they disappeared... No where to be found...

But we all know where they were... Under the refrigerator... That’s where those things go... Those grapes, blueberries and tiny carrots.

Sometimes they are just barely under the fridge... You can grab those deviants with your fingers. Other times they are out of reach... Just peeking out at you from the dark.

The only thing you can get it out with is the yardstick. By the way, the two second rule doesn’t apply here... anything that rolls under the fridge... is unfit for human consumption. So you get the yardstick out... and the phone rings... Later you look and wonder why the yardstick is out... And put it back in the pantry. And you start popping grapes into your mouth... Forgetting the runaways.

The neighborhood is like that bunch of grapes. Loosely holding on to the stem... Staying together. Getting a little older and softer now, but still hanging together. There are lemons, limes and grapefruit in the same bowl with the bunch of grapes... Putting the squeeze on. They probably shouldn’t be in the same bowl... But, they will always be there now.

The runaways... Those grapes that rolled under the fridge... They, in general, like that quiet hum of the fridge... The being out of sight... The grumpy ones are starting to wrinkle... And will shrink and wrinkle more... Soon... will become unrecognizable... But, they are happy to be out of sight and just out of reach. They can be part of the bunch, but you have to get the yardstick out to get them out in the open.

It should be fun being part of the bunch... Have fun next year.

Signing off...
A peaceful, wrinkled grape... Eyes open, smiling at you from a peaceful spot... Hiding just on the other side of some obstruction on the bottom of the fridge... So it is hard for the yardstick to get to it.
... Hey... Check out that hot little blueberry that just rolled in last week... See the bunch of you later...

Only Happy Joe would write that!! or is it Smokin' Joe or maybe Daddyoleo or Pop Pop? Whatever the name, I plan to be the hot little blueberry by his wrinkled side.
