This is my first project after setting up shop and making a few cabinets for my tools. The chair is made out of about 10 board feet of Soft Maple. It was way too hard for a first project... there were times I thought I would have $80 worth of Maple firewood... but, it survived... so far.
This chair does not have any straight parts on it that you can see. The mortises and tenons are straight and square... as straight and square as my first try could be. The finish is about 15 coats of wipe-on polyurethane. The cushion is 2 inches thick... very firm, high quality foam... the back cushion has been cut to shape.

I made full size plans from my sketches and transfered the outlines on to the raw wood. I cut the tenons and mortises while the wood was still square boards. Then, I cut the wood on Donald Nesting's new 18 inch band saw. After each cut was made, I had to use blue painters tape to tape the piece back on... it had to be square to cut the other side. I read about that technique... and wah-la... it worked. I cut the pieces oversized where I could. I glued it together... and then used a angle grinder with very coarse sandpaper to sculpt and shape the final form.
The first real test was for me to sit in it while holding on to something sturdy... in case it collapsed... so far so good. It took a long time to do, because it was all new to me. Good brain exercise...
